[ObjectWeb Middleware] -> [Training Material] Training MaterialNeedless to say, novelty virtually happens everyday in the world of middleware. Therefore, training activities are not only in line with ObjectWeb's goal – fostering the development of open source middleware ; they are a central concern. Training is loosely structured around a wide range of initiatives, in the same spirit of openness as for other development processes. Community & General Public EducationThe code base in itself is training material ! Often implemented by students and researchers as part of their studies, or by top-level independent contributors, software is a concrete and operational embodiement of their results. Most often, it conforms to the state-of-the-art and current “best practices” and is an answer book to the hottest questions in software development. Even if you never considered contributing to a project, feel free to browse the Forge anyway and read some piece of code. Understanding how something is implementing is a good way to learn : about theory, about implementation, about standards and... about other's errors ! The documentation rings are dedicated to technical and educational material in the area of middleware. They reference websites containing educational material: slides, handouts, tutorials, etc about middleware components but also technical documents such as software documentation and code walkthrough. Although hosted by the consortium, these rings are not restricted to ObjectWeb members. Members EducationObjectWeb members play a prominent role in evangelizing about middleware in general and open-source in particuliar. Community gives back though, and the members get lots of opportunities for learning. The annual conference and the meetings of the College of Architects are recurrent gatherings, open to all members, where top-level architects and developpers share their knowledge. Workshops are often organized between members to present hot topics : check upcoming events for an updated schedule. The consortium has priviledged relationships with the scientific and academic community, as examplified by its organization being hosted by the first French public research center specialized in computer science, INRIA. Higher EducationOpen Source is arguably a solution of choice for educational purposes, and this topic has been extensively covered in a galore of articles. To put it shortly, open source is often considered coherent with the mission of schools and universities (spreading knowledge), cost-effective (money coming from the Treasury) and convenient (due to close relations between the world of education and the open source communities). Whenever the subject of education relates to standards or theoritical matters, open implementations provide a training toolkit along with a sandbox for lab sessions. For students, the ObjectWeb community offers many internships, doctoral and post-doctoral studies. Contact the Executive Committee to learn more about these opportunities, apply or propose a research subject. |
